Why Traveler's Choice

Traveler's Choice has built luggage in California for 41 years and supplies replacement bags for seven U.S. airlines. That is the business we know from the other side: the bags airlines hand you when the one you traveled with breaks.

A note on the size. A suitcase is measured by its height, wheels and handles included. The true 24 inch bag here is the Bell Weather at 24 x 17 x 11. If you want a little less so it stays carry-on legal, the Pagosa and Mykel are around 22 inches and ride in the cabin. If you want more room, the Edinburgh II is 25.25. The exact dimensions are on every bag above, so you can buy by the real number, not the label.

The price is the other half. A mid-size checked bag from a premium brand often runs $180 to $300. These start at $89.99. You are paying for the shell, the wheels, and the lock, not the logo, true value.

The video above is Traveler's Choice putting its own bags through the same tests for each piece of luggage: drop tests, torque, and compression, the same punishment a baggage handler hands out on every flight.

The suitcases that pass are the ones that go into airline replacement programs. When a carrier damages a passenger's bag, these seven airlines send that traveler to Traveler's Choice.

Traveler's Choice is the only U.S. luggage maker selected as a replacement partner by seven airlines. When an airline damages a passenger's bag, this is the brand they refer customers to.

FAQ

How large is 24 inch luggage?

The 24 refers to the height, measured with the wheels and handle included. A 24 inch bag holds roughly 60 to 70 liters and packs about a week for one person. Check the exact dimensions on each bag above, since sizes in this range run from about 22 to 25 inches.

Can I bring 24 inch luggage on a plane?

A 24 inch bag is typically a checked bag. It is larger than the standard 22 x 14 x 9 inch carry-on limit, so it travels in the hold. The 22 inch options above, the Pagosa and the Mykel, are carry-on sized and ride in the cabin.

Is my 24 inch suitcase too big for the flight?

For a carry-on, typically yes, a 24 inch bag is too big. For a checked bag, no. Stay under the airline's 62 linear inches (length plus width plus height) and 50 pounds to avoid oversize and overweight fees. Every bag above is well within the linear-inch limit. Be sure to check with airlines as policies can change.

Should I get a 22, 24, or 25 inch bag?

A 22 inch carry-on flies free in the cabin and packs three to four days. A 24 inch checked bag packs about a week. A 25 inch gives you a little more room for a longer trip or for bringing things home. Match the size to your trip length.

How many days does 24 inch luggage pack for?

About five to nine days for one person, and more if you use packing cubes to compress. It is the size most travelers reach for on a week-long trip.

Gotta spread the love

Have had a hardshell Traveler's Choice suitcase that is several years old that I received as a hand me down from my dad and it looks the exact same as the day I got it, even with numerous international trips. No dents or cracks or scuffs (given, it is Navy blue). The only blemishes are from sticker residue and minor dirt in the wheels that is easily cleaned. Wheels still work GREAT. I have taken that thing on dirt and cobblestone roads in South East Asia and everyone else broke at least one wheel, but mine kept pushing like a dream.

Sister needed a birthday gift and always tries to steal my checked luggage so I decided to buy her her own. The choice for what brand was obvious. She loved the aesthetics of BEIS but I have heard horrible things about their customer service and warranties. Delsey is a hit or miss. It is so worth it to buy from the manufacturer website in the event you need to cash in on that warranty, and in the case of Traveler's Choice, I have never needed to.

Shipping was WICKED fast, and we got a free luggage cover! Quality is still fantastic and we are extremely happy with the purchase!

2nd luggage from TC

This is my 2nd luggage from Travelers Choice, I have the Medium Trunk (which I have had since 2022 and used to go to the Philippines and has held up very well).

The Bell Weather Carry On I purchased in the Silver, since it was the only color left. It looks more matte finish than shiny in the picture. I still went with the Traveler's Choice bag instead of Tumi, Beis, Monos, Away, etc. because of my previous bag from TC, quality, and the price! I even went to BJ's and they had carryon bags at the same price or higher but the quality was not great and none had the TSA lock. My luggage arrived via FEDEX in 4 days! No damages.

I really was going to purchase the Pagosa carry on but the Pagosa was 2 inches longer, which is pushing it for Domestic and International flights. This size suits me better since it won't be too heavy to carry over into the overhead bin. Love how it moves smoothly. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase and plan to buy another Medium Trunk for a future trip.

Durable and beautiful

I love this luggage!! I travel all over the world for years and my luggage is still in great shape. I have a couple of scratches but nothing major and that is to be expected when airlines toss your luggage around. Still in love with the space and durability of the set. Would buy again.
